Strawberry Fitness Festival 2013... Coming again May, 2014
Saturday May 4th was our school's annual Strawberry Festival! With the change in location this year to the historic Durham Athletic Park, we added a new twist... a Strawberry Fitness Festival!
Along with our favorite festival treats and activities, there will be a 5K Fun Run and a Strawberry Stroll!

Wellness Gift Bags
The students started out their winter break with a bag of wellness goodies! Each bag contained sweet potatoes from Green Button Farm, an orange from Whole Foods, a jump rope from USA Jump Rope Association, tips on practicing mindfulness, sweet potato recipes and a resource list of local healthy activities. Several teachers won Wellness gift certificates to YMCA, Refractory Cafe, Omega Sports, Bella Trio and Bonefish Grill.

Our Friendship Feast
Before Thanksgiving break, our school comes together as a community to create delicious soup, sing songs and share our thanks for the wonderful community we have built. Each grade contributes an ingredient for our soup. This year the 4th graders in Aaron's class made bread and the 3rd graders performed the play "Stone Soup".
2nd Graders Team Up with the Durham YMCA for Swimming
Each fall and spring, our 2nd graders walk to the YMCA for swim lessons in small groups. Students participate in group instruction and enjoy some free play too! Swimming is not only an important safety skill but a great way to promote brain and body health!
CPSFC supports Girls On The Run
3rd, 4th and 5th grad girls learn healthy habits and leadership skills through the power or running, while training for a non-competitive 5K run/walk. The girls meet twice
weekly for 12 weeks. Sessions include
running workouts and games that teach important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, goal-setting, conflict resolution, and healthy decision making. At the end of the program, all girls participate in a 5K (3.2 mile) run/walk event as a final personal challenge for the season.
